Veteran Journal

I was recently interviewed for an article in the Veteran Journal - you can read it at veteran journal online

The article is a look at Guard/Reserve....if you're a new follower, you may not have read my previous post about the lack of support for reserve families during deployment.  I followed it up with a rant post about how isolated I sometimes feel.

Sometimes.

Today I actually feel pretty good, and am thrilled to be a part of this 'community' of milspouses!  And an update on the FRG thing - the unit that hubby deployed with (not his own unit) DOES have a very active FRO, and I have now added her on my Facebook.  It's like magic!  Instant connection to information, other spouses, etc.  *POOF*

:)

A very informative article. I didn't even consider the whole "switching back and forth between military wife and civilian wife", it must be a struggle to get all your ducks in a row each time he deploys. You must have to work really hard to adjust your budget for the reduction in pay which is a huge challenge in itself when you have kids at home and no husband around to fix things that you may have to call a repair-man out to fix.

You are an inspiration to me :-)

I can't imagine being the wife of a reservists. It's just not fair to them at all. You get all the joys of still being close to family, but all the downs of dealing with deployment. And, imo, I feel like reservists deploy more.

At least here you're dealing with so much bullshit everyday that a deployment is nothing new. No family support, just a family of women who make it all worth it.

Or wait--- is it the guys who make it worth it? I forget. Ha

Great interview! I'm so sorry about the troubles you have as a reservists' wife. I guess I do take for granted the fact that my husband is active duty, that this is his career, and we are surrounded by people in the same boat. I can't imagine my husband having a different career and having to leave it for multiple deployments, especially when it means a pay cut. I'm glad you are finding support in the blogoshpere. I agree with the above statement...you are inspirational!
